SUMMERFAST 2013 RACE REPORT
VANCOUVER (July 20, 2013) – The sun was shining and records were falling at 25th annual Summerfast 10K in Stanley Park.
2012 Sun Run champion Kelly Wiebe led the sold-out field across the finish line, taking more than a minute off the course record that had stood for 10 years. Two-time Sun Run champion Natasha Fraser took the win on the women’s side, also in record time. Jim Finlayson made the trip across from Victoria to claim first in the Masters division, while Catherine Watkins was our women’s Masters champion. Oh, and both Jim and Catherine also set course records.
But it wasn’t only course records that fell on Saturday, as North Vancouver’s Betty-Jean McHugh smashed the 85+ women’s world record by more than 26 minutes with her 1:06:49 performance!
Following the race, participants were treated to an assortment of home-baked goodies, and an unconventionally interactive awards ceremony led by race announcer Ellie Greenwood and VFAC founder John Hill.
The Vancouver Falcons thank everyone who participated in the race, and are particularly grateful to our sponsors. We hope to see everyone back next year for Summerfast 2014!

This year’s Summerfast 10k will feature a course that will be scenic and fast as it travels around the seawall. The race course is a completely flat, Athletics Canada certified run along the seawall. Runners will start and finish at Second Beach in Ceperely Park. Leaving the start, the race course heads east along the south side of Lost Lagoon and over to “Mile Zero” of the Seawall. Here runners will complete a short side loop along Coal Harbour before heading out onto the Seawall. The race course then follows along the Seawall in a counter clockwise direction.
